It’s hard to believe that it is time to select the members of the 2013-14 Institute Class! Although I was unable to be in Washington for all of the activities of this year’s class, I was able to attend the Graduation Dinner at the Old Ebbitt Grill. What continues to amaze me is the wonderful stories you share at that dinner about your experience as a member of the Institute. Over and over again, I hear that it has made a difference to you personally and professionally. Each week we hear from an Institute member who has decided to seek elected or appointed office, or who has just gotten a new position, appointment or received some recognition in their own community or professional association. This year, there were two of the members of the class who had applied three times before they were accepted. I have always explained that we would love to take everyone who applies, but have found that a class of 25 or less works best both for meeting arrangements and building lasting relationships.
Many of you are recommending women to be members of our next class. It is your continued interest in doing that which has helped to build new strong classes. Please also help us encourage those who have applied this year who we may not be able to include, to apply again.
I hope to see you at our Summer Picnic on July 16th.
It’s class recruitment time again! Each of you makes this Institute strong. Each of you continues to make it grow as you encourage others to apply. You are our lifeline! Please reach out and encourage qualified women to join this wonderful Institute experience.
Also, I ask one other thing of you. Right now, open your contact information in the membership directory and UPDATE IT!!! While trying to reach at least a dozen of you over the past few weeks, I note that at least half (or more) have contact information which is not up to date. This directory is an invaluable help to other members seeking advice, connections and information. Help us help you!
Finally, we are all looking forward to seeing you at the picnic! See you soon!

| INSTITUTE MEMBERS TAKE THE MICROPHONE
During the 2012-13 program year, presentations were made regarding the shale industry, leadership and fundraising skills, successful career paths and more. The monthly themes have been similar each year; however, the presenters have changed to fit the make-up of each class.
In recent years, many Institute Members have returned to the classroom but this time they are standing behind the podium speaking. This year the program included the following Institute Members: State Representatives Cheryl Grossman and Christina Hagan; PUCO Commissioner Beth Trombold and Public Affairs Director Holly Karg; Columbia Gas Governmental Affairs Manager Darnita Bradley; Lora Miller, Government Affairs Director at Ohio Council of Retail Merchants; Elise Spriggs, Asst. Vice President at State Auto Insurance; Lynda Bowers, Township Trustee; County Commissioner Diane Delaplane; Mayor Lydia Mihalik; fundraising consultant Pam Hashem; Vice President at Ohio Chamber Beau Euton; Penny Seipel, Vice President at Ohio Oil and Gas Assoc.; Christina Haddad Polesovsky, Assoc. Director at Ohio Petroleum Council; Licking County Republican Chair Billie Fiore; and small business owner Michael Evans. Yes, out of the 54 program speakers in Ohio, almost 30% are Institute Members in “CEO” positions administering in public policy, economic development, community service, business and politics.
Why is it important to share this information with all of the Institute Members? Because they are an example of the diversified and giving mentors willing to mentor other aspiring women. The membership directory on our website is a quick and easy way to access these members and others. If you have a problem and cannot reach someone, just email Linda Dotson or me email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
| OFRW 2013 SPRING CONFERENCE
The Honorable Jo Ann Davidson was the featured speaker for the Ohio Federation of Republican Women’s 2013 Spring Conference. She gave a VERY informative speech, that was also entertaining. Her remarks were regarding leadership – to go along with the theme of the event “Leading to Louisville”.
The National Federation of Republican Women will be holding its 37th Biennial Convention (and celebrating its 75th anniversary) in Louisville September 20-22.
| CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES!
It was my privilege to join the 2013 Graduating Class in Washington DC, as they shared their Leadership Institute experiences. Their heartfelt appreciation of the vision of Speaker Davidson, and the on-going efforts of Betty Montgomery, was indeed very moving and so sincere. I was honored to attend and wish each of the graduates much success.
