May 2015

Congratulations and thanks to all of you in helping the Leadership Institute celebrate its 15th Anniversary.  After our graduation trip last week for the Class of 2014-15, we are in the planning stages of our summer picnic, interviews to choose members for our 2015-16 Institute Class, the September meeting of the new class, as well as our November retreat.
Now 291 members strong, it is an exciting and challenging time for the Institute.  It is not surprising that many colleges and universities, as well as corporate and not-for-profit entities, are stressing leadership training.  Most citizens believe that having strong, talented and dedicated leaders in public service, our educational institutions and the private sector, makes a difference.  From my experience I know if we had more women leaders in our elective and appointed bodies of government, they could make a difference.
I am so very proud of all of you.  Not only are you taking risks in running for office and willing to take on new opportunities in public service, you are doing it for the right reasons.

Jo Ann

P.S.  Please remember to update your Institute on-line directory listing.  We are often asked to recommend members for board, commissions and appointed positions and it is helpful to have your most up-to-date contact information available.  Directions on how to update your information are included in this newsletter.

Spring has sprung!  And, shortly, summer will be upon us.  Mark your calendars for July 16 and our Annual Summer Picnic at the Governor’s Residence.
It’s hard to believe our 15th class graduated recently and our new class will start in September.
All of you are our best ambassadors.  Applications for our new class are being accepted until June 22.  Please reach out to women who you think would be good members.  Our numbers are growing and our members are being recognized by many as quality candidates, employees and appointees.  Please help us recruit our new generation of civic and politically minded candidates.
See you soon!

Each newsletter we will hear from a Committee Chair. This newsletter the column is from Val Hoover, Chair of the Recruitment and Selection Committee:

Recruiting a Few Good Women!

It is that time of year again.  Spring has finally fully arrived and we are recruiting a few good women for our next Institute class.  As chair of the Recruitment and Selection Committee, I know and am very grateful that our Institute has the best recruiters – each of you.  I ask that you please take a moment to consider who in your circle of influence would make the next great institute member.  Once you have that woman (or women) in mind, please encourage her to apply!  Send her the link to our website application listed below.

Our strength lies in each of you, our members, as you are what makes our organization one of the most recognized and respected across Ohio.  We are the group of leaders that Republican leaders call upon when they need their mission accomplished.   So I am calling on you to seek great recruits and  then we will call our 2015 recruiting mission accomplished!

You may let your recruits know that the application is on the Institute’s website and its deadline is June 22, 2015.  Additionally, the required in-person interviews will be conducted on August 6 or 7th at the Ohio Republican Headquarters in downtown Columbus.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at or (614)735-0853.

Thank you for representing our great Institute with such passion and let’s make this next class one of the best classes ever.  I look forward to seeing the applicants that you want as fellow members.  Thank you for helping us all be stronger!
